Live Emergency Exercise at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport

Winnipeg Airports Authority
Winnipeg Airports Authority is conducting a live emergency exercise at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport on Wednesday, June 3, 2015. Complying with Transport Canada Aerodrome Standards and Recommended Practices, the exercise enables airport and emergency response personnel to review and practice emergency response procedures in a safe and controlled environment.

The exercise will involve a simulated incident on the airfield with participation from on-airport and off-airport emergency response vehicles and personnel. The location and timing has been planned to avoid disruption to airfield or terminal operations. In the interest of maintaining the learning outcomes for the exercise, specifics on the precise timing and incident scenario will not be released, except where necessary, prior to the start of the exercise.

Agencies and partners collaborating with WAA on this exercise include the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, NAV CANADA, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, Winnipeg Police Service, Canada Border Services Agency, 17 Wing Winnipeg, WestJet, Delta Airlines, Air Canada, Calm Air, United Airlines, Swissport, Sunwing, Avion Services Corp, Transport Canada, Criti Care EMS, Transportation Safety Board, Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization, City of Winnipeg 911, Winnipeg Transit, Public Health Agency of Canada, Manitoba Health, Manitoba Office of Disaster Management, Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, St. John’s Ambulance, Canadian Red Cross, and The Salvation Army.

The airport will remain open during the exercise and emergency response services will be available at all times in the event of a real incident at the airport. If severe weather or other operational concerns arise, the exercise will be postponed and an update issued.
